The Thinking Behind OPEN HAND In Chandigarh by Le Corbusier

The idea of freedom is attractive. Especially when a nation acquires it.

In India it began with great hope.

The OPEN HAND SCULPTURE embodies this hope:

Open to receive and open to give.

In Chandigarh, Le Corbusier was hand-picked to concept and to give a physical form to this vision.

The OPEN HAND was sited in a choice place where citizens can hold public debates on the city's present day issues. The rights of citizens to manage their own city was recognised and respected.

Today, the place is cordoned off on grounds of security.
