Ebb Tide And Its Effects

Music has a way of affecting me.

The year was 1966 in the Specialist Teachers' Training Institute (STTI), Cheras.

I was doodling.

It was around 10.00 pm.

EBB TIDE by Frank Chacksfield came drifting in from my collegemate's room, doors away.

My feelings were awakened.

I felt drawn.

I drew flying figures in mystical space.

Then followed a desire to put into words those strange lovely feelings.

A poem was born: Of Man And Birds. Which was published in the College Annual in 1966.

And a painting was later made from the drawings.

I am recording this to remember a significant phase of my life that I value.

And to acknowledge the friendships and learnings from colleagues and teachers that I treasure.

I live in Penang where this practice is an ordinary living day-to-day-happening for chinese families. Family members seek the services of acupuncturists for treatment of aches and pains in limbs and other parts of the body.

This investigative docu has particular interest for me. It explains at the end the scientific explanation why acupuncture works. It is not just faith in what has been traditionally found to be workable. It is a system of healing that has a collated body of scholarship for learning, teaching and practice.

Acupuncture is a collection of procedures which involves the stimulation of points on the body using a variety of techniques, such as penetrating the skin with needles that are then manipulated manually or by electrical stimulation. It is one of the key components of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), and is among the oldest healing practices in the world.

As part of the documentary, you will see an young women having an open heart surgery without any anesthetics, just acupuncture, a 2000 years old healing method. On 5th and 6th of January in Bangkok (Thailand) Kseniya Simonova presented a sand story about His Majesty The King of Thailand Rama IX. Devoted to his 84th anniversary, the sand story created by Simonova told about the great inventions of the King conserning the Environment, about His love of his people and of His country. Kseniya was performing in the Royal Pavillion of Bangkok in a specially built hall in the presence of Her Royal Highnesty Princess Sirindhorn and the Government of Thailand. The spirit of the sand fantasy of Simonova, the feeling which she expressed in her art work stunned the audience. "I was very happyto receive such reaction", - says Kseniya, - "This sand story had a very long period of preparations, I was very worried about how the people of Thailand will take it. The music for my sand story was written by His Majesty the King himself. This music is really beautiful and inspiring. His Majesty is trully a genious person!"
After watching Kseniya's performance, the Princess of Thailand gave her flowers from herself and from her Father, the King as a present. Kseniya gave her Royal Hihnesty two discs with a sand film about the King which was shot by her and the Ovation.Tv (the Royal Television of Thailand) beforehand.
